FOUND!!! AB Neptune brochure!

Okay, here's what I know. The entire processor is only slightly longer than a AAA battery or approximately the size of an iPod shuffle. It is a completely new style of implant. It is not a behind the ear processor. You can wear it anywhere; you can pin it to your shoulder or even pin it to a hair barrett. There is no information on a rechargeable option. It will be submitted to the FDA within a month or so. That's about all I have. They're trying to keep it mostly under wraps. Brochure follows:

Is this a body worn CI? If so, where do they place the processor? Exactly how big is it? Do you have an idea?

This is exciting for all AB users. Does it mean that we can wear Neptune in the shower? That would be wonderful.

reminds me of http://www.cochlear.com/sea/sprint . You can connect directly to the headpiece without the BTE but you'll have to wear a label microphone with it. If they did add the microphone to the bodyworn processor, it would work just like that, but without the waterproof features.

Just to let you know, cochlear call this headset (where you don't have to wear BTE microphone) as "Sport cable"

It's still a hassle though. The clipon make sense as it can fall off, but that doesn't mean the headpiece won't fall off or get in the way.

the swim cap method would be better because the child don't have to worry about the wiring or anything.

One more thing, I would LOVE to just wear a magnet piece and nothing else. even if it means it could be thicker.

I didn't know the Neptune was being submitted to the FDA so soon... they haven't re-approved the internal implant yet as far as I know. Huh. interesting!

Interesting. I'd still rather have a BTE. I hear that Cochlear might be coming out with something too.

Cochlear now have an accessory called "Aqua" that is much more simple, practical and affordable than the AB Neptune, in my opinion. It is a plastic pouch that you put the entire processor, cable and coil into, use once, and then dispose. The Neptune seems quite a hassle to put on and take off, particularly if your kids are like mine and wont even stop squirming when I try to put suntan lotion on them, let alone spend ten minutes attaching boxes and changing cables.

You are crazy. All you have to do is hand them the device. There isn't even anything to wear on the ear, it is extremely convenient. You just set it and go. There is no "attaching boxes and cables". I have no idea what you think the Neptune is...

As for the Cochlear "Aqua Accessory", I was dumbfounded when I saw it. There are soooo few people (kids included) that would EVER wear that thing. And how are you supposed to keep it from coming off your ear underwater, when you are washing your hair, or on a waterslide. It is ridiculous, and if I was a Cochlear parent, I would be furious.
