Future SLP

Miss Kat came to me today and told me that she found a new talent she didn't know she had. She said that when she grows up, she wants to be an SLP.

As it turns out, there is a little girl who likes to come and mess with her during recess. Miss Kat says that the little girl always tries to take away whatever she is drawing. She also noted that the little girl "doesn't speak very well". I guess today Miss Kat attempted to help her learn. She said that she sat down with the little girl and taught her how to say a few words. Miss Kat said that she really liked it, and that "I always knew I was a talented 'drawer', but now I have a second talent. It is to teach children to speak."

Every day is a new adventure!

Hi I am a college student majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders because I would like to become a Speech-Language Pathologist too :). I just wanted to let you know that I have enjoyed reading your blog. I have picked your blog to write about for a project that I have to do for one of my classes. Your blog has been inspirational and empowering. The good and the bad times are discussed which really gives others an idea of what it is like living in your shoes. You try not to be biased, but honest. People see all sides to the story. Not every child or family is going to experience the same thing because humans are just unique in that way. There are highs and lows to every journey. In my eyes, your daughter has come a long way and has worked hard to get where she is. I am happy to see that her and your family are at a place you wanted to get to in the end. I think that you should continue to write more about your daughter's journey until she is old enough and if she wanted, share the experience from her point of view. Also, I would love to hear more personally. I'm sorry that people have made nasty comments. This is your daughter's journey, not theirs and if they can't accept that, that is their problem. Don't let what others say get to you, no one is perfect in this world and it is apparent that you do the best you can for your daughter. There are still many people that support you and your family, always remember that. -Best Wishes
